Serological evidence of Bartonella vinsonii lymphadenopathies in a child bitten by a dog.

چکیده
Bartonella species are gram-negative bacilli that belong to the alpha two subgroup of Proteobacteria. Bartonella species are being recognised as increasingly important bacterial pathogens in veterinary and human medicine [1]. These organisms can be transmitted by an arthropod vector or alternatively by animal scratches or bites [1]. Cat scratch disease (CSD) is caused by Bartonella henselae and is certainly the most common Bartonella zoonosis worldwide. Cats are the main reservoir of B. henselae, and the bacterium may be transmitted from cat to cat by the cat flea. The main clinical manifestation of typical CSD in an immunocompetent host remains lymphadenopathy and that appears approximately 2 weeks after inoculation. Bartonella vinsonii subsp. arupensis appeared to be closely related to B. vinsonii subsp. vinsonii, another rodent-associated taxon, and to B. vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii, which was described recently in dogs [1]. These three subspecies have been reported to be agents of bacteraemia and endocarditis in dogs [1]. B. vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii and B. vinsonii subsp. arupensis have been reported to be rare agents of endocarditis in humans [2]. Here we report the first serological evidence of B. vinsonii infection, in a French child with multiple lymphadenopathies following a dog bite.

Canine bartonellosis: serological and molecular prevalence in Brazil and evidence of co-infection with Bartonella henselae and Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii.
The purpose of this study was to determine the serological and molecular prevalence of Bartonella spp. infection in a sick dog population from Brazil. At the São Paulo State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Botucatu, 198 consecutive dogs with clinicopathological abnormalities consistent with tick-borne infections were sampled. Antibodies to Bartonella henselae and Bartonella vinsonii ...

Canine Bartonellosis Bartonella was discovered in 1909 by a scientist in Peru, A. L. Barton, who recognized and described organisms that parasitized erythrocytes in the blood of infected humans. The organism, first named Bartonia, was later renamed Bartonella bacilliformis, now recognized as the type species for the genus. For many years, this organism was the only member of the group. However,...

The molecular characterization of a Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii genotype III strain (NCSU strain 06-CO1) isolated from the blood of a military working dog diagnosed with endocarditis is reported in this study. Several genes were amplified and sequenced for comparative sequence similarity with other strains.
متن کاملPersistent infection of pets within a household with three Bartonella species.
We monitored by blood culture and immunofluorescence assay (IFA) bartonella infection in one dog and eight cats in a household to determine the prevalence and persistence of the infection as well as its transmissibility to humans. Ectoparasite control was rigorously exercised. During a 3-year period, Bartonella clarridgeiae was recovered from one cat on two occasions, and B. henselae was isolat...
متن کاملBartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii in free-ranging white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus).
Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii has not been detected previously in white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). We tested whole blood from 60 white-tailed deer for Bartonella spp. DNA; three (5%) were positive for Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii. This is the first detection of Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii in white-tailed deer.
